Possibility of Atomic Motion in Solids under the Action of the Laser Light Pulse,
Abstract
The object of the research was to demonstrate that atoms can move to new stable positions in solids even in the short duration of the action of the laser light pulse. To accomplish this, it was necessary to select a material in which even very small displacements of atoms from equilibrium positions in the lattice would result in stable and detectable structural transformations. The material selected was an alloy of copper and platinum containing 25 at-% Pt. X-ray diffraction studies showed complete destruction of the simple cubic superstructure after irradiation with laser light.
