On a General Regularity in the Variation of the Mechanical Properties of Metals and Alloys under Various Load Conditions,

Abstract

The way in which the mechanical properties of metals and alloys depend on the stress state is analyzed. When critical deformation conditions are reached, an S-shaped function describes the material behavior. The regularity of this S-shaped response of the mechanical properties serves as a basis for the prediction of the mechanical properties of materials under various load conditions. Examples are given of studies on iron and steel.
