Miniature Lightweight Bail-Out Connectors. Final Model.

Abstract

The purpose of the investigation was to design and develop a lightweight breakaway, or bail-out type connector for use on audio accessories and on combat area radio sets, requiring quick disconnect for emergency separation from equipment or evacuation of personnel from vehicles and shelters. The technical approach consisted of two phases, the preliminary design and the final design. There were three functions that were of primary importance; the coupling device and angular separation, cable and wire termination and the connector interface with the self cleaning contacts. The design was completed and a pilot group of connectors along with the final report were delivered.
