Determination of Nonuniformity of Fuel Mixture Distribution to Cylinders in Acceleration Modes,

Abstract

A device is described for automatic sampling of exhaust gas at each outlet of an eight-cylinder engine, at various times during settled and acceleration modes of engine operation. CO and CO2 content of the samples is determined by optical-acoustical gas analyzers. On the basis of a large amount of experimental data, formulas are derived for determining the coefficient of excess air in each sample and an average coefficient for the engine. The principal causes of differences in irregularity in distribution of the fuel mixture to the engine cylinders in various operating modes should be considered to be change in the nature of mixture formation during acceleration.
