Determination of Losses in Power Train Units of Four-Axle All-Wheel Drive Vehicles,

Abstract

Determination of losses in power trains of four-axle all-wheel drive vehicles is approached by first separating the losses into constant and variable (load) losses, the latter depending mainly on the torque transmitted. Equations are derived for taking account of the varous types of losses. Calculated losses are then compared with experimentally determined losses, with good agreement between them demonstrated in the high rolling resistance regions. At small loads, the differences are due to disregarding such factors as assembly conditions and degree of wear of friction units.
