Application of Instrument Monitoring and Control Devices for the Precision Alignment of Glass Prisms to Metal.

Abstract

The report describes a study that was undertaken to determine the type and number of deficiencies encountered in the inspection of adhesive bonded prism assemblies using glass-to-metal bonding procedures. This report also describes the approach employed to correct the deficiencies highlighted by the bonding study. The approach is primarily concerned with maintaining the precision alignment that is required between the glass prism, the metal adherend, and the bonding fixture. The fixture locates and holds the glass and metal components throughout the entire bonding cycle.
