Intrinsic Coordinates for Plane Viscous Flow and the Free Surface Conditions.

Abstract

The equations for steady plane flow of a viscous fluid are formulated using as coordinates the stream function and the distance along a base streamline. Another formulation is derived using the distance along a base streamline and the distance along orthogonal trajectories to the streamline. This intrinsic coordinate formulation is used to derive boundary conditions which do not explicitly involve the pressure.
