On Modeling Vortex-Excited Oscillations.

Abstract

A mathematical model for describing vortex-excited oscillations of bluff cylinders is developed. The empirical parameters in the model are related to the physical parameters of the fluid-structural system for various values of the vortex-induced oscillating lift force. Model predictions are compared with experimental results and excellent agreement is obtained.
