Stimulated Brillouin Backscatter in the Equatorial Electrojet.

Abstract

The temporal growth rate of stimulated Farley-Buneman type modes and the instability threshold are computed for a 50 MHz CW radar incident upon the equatorial electrojet. An estimate of the total convective amplification across the electrojet determines radar power levels at which significant enhancement of backscatter should be observed.
