Experimental Investigations of Cable-Tool Drilling of Engineering and Geological Holes with a Circular Face Using a 'Pecking' Method,

Abstract

In the article the experimental investigations of the 'pecking' method of drilling are described. The process of drilling by this method entails free release on the cable of the drill from the winch of the drilling machine. Falling under dead weight, the drill gains speed and at the moment of contact with the soil has its fixed value and, consequently, the fixed value of kinetic energy also. Because of this energy the instrument is inserted into the soil a certain amount, which depends on a whole series of factors. Thus, the study of the process of cable-tool drilling by the 'pecking' method is divided into two parts: the first concerns the nature of the motion of the instrument along the shaft of the hole, the second - the motion of the instrument in the soil.
