A Real-Time Optical Spectrum Analyzer,

Abstract

This paper describes a real-time optical analyzer which has the ability to perform spectral as well as cepstral analysis. It can serve either as a fine or gross resolution cepstrum analysis device. This resolution depends upon the optical aperture and the spatial frequencies recorded on a magnetic tape loop. In addition, because the optical system also serves as a frequency analyzer, it can be considered as a general-purpose real-time frequency analyzer which can be utilized with a number of vocoding techniques. These techniques include the standard channel vocoder, voice excited vocoder, and the formant tracking vocoder.
