Computers and Society: The Technological Setting,
Abstract
This paper is intended to give only impressions of where computing technology is going and to give a flavor of what it can mean to society, to various professions and to the individual. It will concentrate on two aspects: the so-called logic technology because it is an indicator of how fast a computer can operate and is therefore an approximate measure of the gross computing horsepower that can be built; and file or storage technology because it determines how much data a computer can have direct and convenient access to.
