On-Site Testing of Divers' Compressed Air.

Abstract

A nationwide survey of commercially available instruments for analyzing divers' air was conducted. Many instruments and devices were found which could be used for these analyses. They ranged from simple colorimetric chemical detector tubes to sophisticated infrared analyzers and gas chromatographs. An air purity test kit containing colorimetric detector tubes for carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, hydrogen sulfide, and halogenated solvents was assembled at CEL for on-site testing of divers' compressed air. The kit also contained a modified Fram Fluidic Monitor and an ultraviolet lamp for detecting oil in air.
