The Effect of Situational Change on Individual Behavior and Performance: An Extension of the Contingency Model.

Abstract

The study extends the Contingency Model of Leadership Effectiveness (Fiedler, 1967) to the prediction of work behavior by individuals who do not necessarily hold leadership or supervisory positions. The study was conducted in a nursing school during a major program of reorganization. It generally supported the Contingency Model hypotheses that the individual's motivational structure (LPC) in interaction with his control and influence affects task and interpersonal behavior. Both objective and subjective measures of control and influence were used in the study.
