Parametric Analysis of A DF-CO2 Transfer Laser.

Abstract

Computations were made using nozzle design computer programs and general kinetics codes to model the NRL transfer chemical laser, and to suggest design changes that would yield higher output power. The effect of deactivators such as HF, N2, and H2O, and different CO2 concentrations on laser performance was evaluated. The major conclusions of this study are that additional F2 in the NRL system will increase the performance, and the water present in the system, while required for GDL operation, is detrimental. In the NRL system D2 was injected upstream of the throat of a 24 nozzle bank. This study indicated that laser performance should improve if the D2 were injected in the optical cavity at the primary nozzle exit. To study this, a nozzle bank of 50 dual slit nozzles was designed.
