A Theoretical Investigation of Solar Wind-Magnetosphere Interactions and Astrophysical Plasma Phenomena.
Abstract
The report is directed towards an understanding of solar wind-magnetosphere interactions and astrophysical plasma phenomena. First, some of the basic plasma physics of the cosmic rays seen at Earth is considered in order to ascertain the behavior of such particles under the diverse conditions which obtain in the interplanetary medium. Second, there is a sequence of papers dealing with kinematic dynamo theory and turbulence theory. Kinematic dynamo theory is used to outline the physical conditions under which magnetic fields are generated and maintained in astrophysical bodies. This, in turn, led to an investigation of some of the underlying rationale of turbulence theory. Finally, there is a sequence of papers dealing with radiation passing through, and being reflected from, moving media.
