A Preliminary Low Energy Solar Charged Partile Prediction Technique.

Abstract

A technique was developed for the prediction of low energy solar charged particle fluxes near 1 AU. Solar flare optical and x-ray data are used to estimate the number of particles produced in the active regions. The magnetic polarity topology of the low corona is used to estimate the access of the accelerated particles to the interplanetary medium as a function of heliographic longitude. The injected particles follow magnetic field lines closely and the EQRH approximation is used to determine the coronal connection longitude.
