Pole Position for 1973 Based on Doppler Satellite Observations.

Abstract

The position of the earth's spin axis with respect to the crust was computed on the basis of Doppler satellite observations in 1973. The standard error of the determinations based on five days of observations was about 20 cm during periods when data from 19 stations on three satellites were used in computations. Latitude residuals, based on five-day data spans, were computed for eight stations for the entire year; the standard deviation of these residuals was about 70 cm.
