Cruise Report, Knorr 39.

Abstract

KNORR-39 was a single leg cruise, Woods Hole to Woods Hole. Duration of the cruise was eighteen days, April 8 through April 26, 1974. Nineteen deep-sea moorings were launched and nine recovered, with CTD casts to the bottom at each mooring site. Mooring locations include Site D, the Gulf Stream, the Muir Seamount, the MODE area. One of the Gulf Stream moorings was a three-month engineering test of armored dacron in a high fishbite area, to be recovered in July. A disappointing failure of a factory wire termination cut short a two-day Surface Mooring Dynamics Experiment in the MODE area. XBT's were taken at Site D and in the Gulf Stream. A SOFAR float was launched in the MODE area and a deep-sea biological sample was taken at the Muir Seamount.
