Investigation of the Effect of Microstructure on the Creep Behavior of Eutectic Alloys.

Abstract

The effect of matrix heat-treatment on the creep resistance of five Ni3Cb-Ni3Al eutectics was studied. Results showed that the specimens possessed excellent uniformity and the creep test results were very reproducible. The five compositions were ranked according to their creep resistance. Although there was little effect of heat treatment at the temperature studied, the accurate creep data obtained is quite informative for alloy future development. A possible deformation and fracture mode was identified and is being investigated in detail.
