Primary Irritation Evaluation of Candidate Insect Repellents.

Abstract

1-Pentanoyl-4-methylpiperazine, 1-Hexanoyl-4-methylpiperazine, 1-(Propylsulfonyl)-4-methylpiperazine, 4-(3-Cyclohexenecarbonyl)morpholine, 4-(3-Cyclohexenecarbonyl)-2, 6-dimethylmorpholine, 4-Cyclohexanecarbonyl-2, 6-dimethylmorpholine, 4-(6-Methyl-3-cyclohexenecarbonyl)-2,6-dimethylmorpholine and 4-(2-Methylcyclohexane-carbonyl)-2,6-dimethylmorpholine which are candidate insect repellents were evaluated on New Zealand White rabbits for their potential to cause skin and eye irritation. The data obtained serve as a basis for making a recommendation concerning their potential use on humans. This recommendation is intended only for guidance in further entomological testing of these compounds.
