Abstract

The report describes the U. S. Army Limited War Laboratory (LWL), how it was conceived and activated. Included are details of the original planning, the organizational concept and its evolution, a description of facilities, the management and operational philosophies, sources of funding, and a description of program development and execution. The advantages and limitations of LWL's organization and operation are discussed frankly and lessons learned from its operation are reviewed. The Appendices provide full documentation of LWL's development and summaries of the majority of the tasks undertaken during LWL's lifetime.
