Present Concepts in Internal Medicine. Volume VII, Number 3, May-June 1974. Endocrinology Symposium,

Abstract

Eight articles present aspects of the expanding knowledges of endocrine physiology and advancing technology which will benefit diagnosing and therapy of patients. Competitive protein binding assay i.e. 'radiommunoassay' allows the quantification of minute amounts of hormones. The lead article illustrates the contribution of nuclear medicine to endocrinology. Recent developments in diabetes, problem of the thyroid nodule, discussion of triiodothyromine as the real thyroid hormone, pharmacologic uses of glucocorticoids, pathogenesis and prophylaxis of calcium containing renal stones, calcium homeostasis and parathyroid hormone radiommunoassay are the subjects of the articles and illustrate the scope of the symposium.
