Field Ionization Mass Spectrometric Rapid Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases.

Abstract

A program of research has been initiated for the diagnosis of infectious diseases through aberrations in the metabolite profiles in urine and plasma. The same program also includes the identification of microorganisms through their nonpolymeric constituents. Nonfragmenting field ionization mass spectrometry in the multipoint analysis mode is being applied to the determination of molecular weight profiles of carboxylic and amino acids in urine and of nonpolymeric metabolites of microorganisms.
