Developments in High Pressure and High Rate Air Mass Flow Calibration Systems at the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory. Phase II.

Abstract

Development of a system based on a weighing technique and used for calibration of high pressure, high flow rate, air mass flowmeters is described. Phase 1 of this report pertained to the calibration system which was based on the pressure rise method. Flowmeters calibrated with these two systems have been used in the reported tests. Flow rates covered in evaluation of the weighing system ranged from 3.5 to 34.0 pounds per second at upstream pressures from 1,000 to 4,700 psi. Simultaneous calibrations were made with these two basically different calibration systems, and results are included which show the agreement between them. Operational difficulties and changes made to improve the systems are included.
