Sulfur-Based Lithium-Organic Electrolyte Secondary Batteries.

Abstract

The overall aim of this program is to develop a rechargeable lithium battery using an organic solvent. Studies were continued into the feasibility of soluble sulfur cathodes and transition metal sulfides. Exploratory investigations of the solubility, analysis and electrocatalysis of S in organic solvents, especially DMSO, are reported in Section II. Section III contains the first phase of a more detailed study of the preparation, characterization and electrochemical performance of transition metal sulfides for use in secondary lithium batteries.
