Deflection, Stress, and Vibration Analysis of Rotating Propellers using Holography.

Abstract

A new holographic technique has been developed which allows measurement of the deflection of propeller blades while rotating. The technique requires that an axially-symmetric wavefront be directed onto both the propeller blade and a holographic plate rotating with the propeller. Some deflection results for a propeller rotating in air are presented and the technique has been shown to be feasible for propellers rotating in water.
