Nido-metalloboranes Derived from B10H102-.

Abstract

Anhydrous K2B10H10 was found to react with LLPtCl2 complexes where L = triphenylphosphine or LL = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane, diphos, in ethanolic chloroform to form isomeric ethoxy-substituted nido-metalloboranes, LLPtB10H11OC2H5. These complexes are derivatives of the LLPtB10H12 metalloboranes, and arise from the polyhedral expansion of the closo-borane anion. This reaction is one of the few examples in which the B10H10(2-) skeleton is radically altered.
