European Research on Polymer Structure/Morphology versus Property Relationships,

Abstract

Polymer structure/morphology vs properties relationships are being investigated by a large number of Europeans, particularly in the U.K. Industry's efforts in this area appear to be less advanced and of lower intensity compared to university programs. Materials being studied are primarily commercial thermoplastics, notably polyethylene. Techniques used to study morphology/properties relationships cover a wide spectrum of spectroscopic, mechanical and chemical methods. Also techniques to control morphology range from controlling individual lamella dimensions to molecular orientation in the bulk by extrusion and drawing.
