Feasibility of Induction Skin Hardened Tapered Roller Bearings for Engine Main-Shaft and Transmission Pinion Applications

Abstract

The purposes of this program were (1) to improve the design of ultrahigh-speed tapered roller bearings based on the computer analyses and test results previously reported under Contract DAAJ02-70-C-0047, and (2) to develop the required technology to induction skin harden M-50 tool steel rings of relatively thin cross section for use in the manufacture of aircraft rolling bearings.
