Application of Microprogramming for Radar/Computer Interface and Radar Processing in the Frequency Domain.

Abstract

This report contains two parts. Part 1 discusses hardware and software options, reviews principles of microprogramming and investigates the feasibility of microprogramming the TI/ASC computer. Part 2 develops and evaluates a technique for radar processing in the frequency domain. The study is limited to linearly frequency modulated radar signals. It is shown that detection and range estimation can be performed directly in the frequency domain so that an inverse fast Fourier transformation is not required as in the standard matched filter. Simulation programs were developed to implement and test the processing algorithms. The results are promising. The performance in terms of probability of detection, probability of false alarm and range estimation is adequate for practical signal-to-noise ratios.
