Advanced Carbon-Carbon Materials for Solid Rocket Nozzles.

Abstract

The use of advanced carbon-carbon materials to improve the overall performance of solid rocket nozzles is presented. The materials that are currently under development for reentry and propulsion application are examined in terms of advanced solid rocket nozzle requirements. Basic processing methods, reinforcement and construction, types of matrices, coatings, erosion and the matrix/reinforcement relationship are discussed.
