Air Force Approaches to Night Gated Photography

Abstract

Performance of present non-gated active night photographic systems is severely constrained by the effects of atmospheric backscatter. The use of a gated image intensifier camera in conjunction with a pulsed illuminator to eliminate backscattered energy offers significant potential for improvement over non-gated night photographic systems. This paper presents an analytical approach to the problem and experimental data to verify the analytical approach.
