Dual Diameter Roller Bearing Tests.

Abstract

The report covers the testing of four (4) 140 mm bore, dual diameter roller bearings provided as Government furnished property. The objective was to determine their operating characteristics by test. The bearings were to be operated up to 4,000,000 DN (140 mm bore x 28,600 RPM) with radial loads up to 1,000 pounds and bearing temperature of 600F. The bearings were tested at speeds up to 3,000,000 DN; however, bearing damage occurred in the form of rollers breaking at the change in diameters due to bending fatigue. Lubrication was with polyphenyl ether and MIL-L-7808 oil in an air environment.
