On Chahine's Relaxation Method for the Radiative Transfer Equation.

Abstract

The iteration scheme proposed by Chahine (1968, 1970, 1972, 1974) for the solution of the radiative transfer equation is discussed in the context of the inverse problem for the thermal structure of the atmosphere. Sufficient conditions which insure the convergence of the iteration are given.
