Automatic Processing of Digital Ionograms.

Abstract

The automatic processing of ionograms from raw data (as collected by a digital ionospheric sounder) to electron density profiles has been successfully demonstrated using both daytime and nighttime records. The program is not limited to the production of electron density profiles; it is flexible and has the following options: (1) A filtered ionogram output, where the unwanted noise has been eliminated only the wanted signal; (2) A tabulation of ionospheric parameters such as critical frequencies, virtual heights, and the MUF 3000; (3) A tabulation of h'f points for recreating an ionogram; (4) A tabulated output of true height vs electron density.
