Themis Final Report. Volume IV. Recent Developments in the Numerical Solution of Certain Problems in Nonlinear Elastodynamics and in Mixed Finite Element Applications.

Abstract

This volume contains a summary of a number of developments made in the final year of the THEMIS project in three separate areas: (1) The development of a complete theory of conforming, mixed finite element approximations including a priori error estimates and stability criteria; (2) The development of general numerical techniques for studying nonlinear elastodynamic behavior of incompressible isotropic bodies; and (3) The development of general techniques for studying the accuracy and convergence of finite elements for time dependent problems, with emphasis on problems of convection and diffusion.
