The Jump of Naval Guns,

Abstract

This presentation reviews measurement techniques for determination of jump, lists most of the results of measurements made at the Naval Proving Ground (now the Naval Surface Weapons Center, Dahlgren Laboratory), and discusses some possible causes with particular emphasis on aerodynamic jump. In order to study aerodynamic jump in some detail, six-degree-of-freedom trajectories are integrated with the aerodynamic data of a specific projectile. The effect of initial yaw and yawing are shown.
