Conceptual Design of Navy Composite Wings.

Abstract

Convair proposes T300/5208 for the baseline graphite/epoxy sys-tem. It is presently under evaluation for numerous large appli- cations, its uniformity and controllability lend it readily to low-cost, automated layup techniques, and it has outstanding resistance to moisture degradation. Therefore, this system is expected to become the major graphite/epoxy material for aircraft applications. Convair has generated extensive design allowable data on the Avco 5505 under Contract AF33(615)-5257. Convair prefers the Avco 5505 system because of its somewhat higher tem-perature resistance and its extensive history. (Author, modified-PL)
