Spectral Simulation of Resonance Band Transmission Profiles for Species Concentration Measurements: NO gamma-Bands as an Example

Abstract

The equations necessary for the calculation of the integrated transmission of overlapped, Doppler-Broadened spectral lines through a medium at a specified density, temperature, and path length are developed in conjunction with a computation procedure for simulation of a spectrometer output. The application is then made to resonance absorption by diatomic molecules. Existing band transmission data for the (0,0) band of the gamma-system of the nitric oxide molecule at low pressures are used to test the calculations. Satisfactory agreement between measured and calculated transmission spectral profiles was obtained.
