An Assumed Stress Hybrid Finite Element for Three-Dimensional Elastic Structural Analysis.

Abstract

An eight-node isoparametric hexahedral element based on the assumed stress hybrid approach is developed for three dimensional elastic structural analysis. The assumed stresses are represented by 24 unknown parameters. Two different ways of treating body forces are discussed and compared. A scheme of decomposing the assumed stress field to deal with incompressible or nearly incompressible material is also presented. Several example problems were solved to investigate the performance of the present element.
