Determination of Changes in Lubricant Viscosities at High Pressures and Temperatures.

Abstract

Absolute viscosity, kinematic viscosity, density and secant bulk modulus values determined for seven lubricating fluids are presented. The determinations were made with a falling weight viscometer at temperatures of 100, 210, and 300F and at pressures ranging from atmospheric to 160,000 psi. Plots of absolute viscosity and density are given and all results are discussed. The equipment used to make the determinations is described and the procedures followed to collect data and reduce to fluid property values are outlined.
