A Memory-Process Model of Symbolic Assimilation

Abstract

The report describes research on problems of using knowledge to make available information useful, which is called 'assimilation' problems. The resulting theory contributes to psychology as a model of human short term memory, and to information science as an effective collection of new general methods. The vehicle for study is a computer program, called the Slate system, which manipulates knowledge and experience represented as labeled directed graphs.
