Theoretical Basis for CEL/NONSAP, A Nonlinear Structural Analysis Program.

Abstract

This program documents the theoretical basis for the computer program CEL/NONSAP. NONSAP is a nonlinear structural analysis program that predicts either static or dynamic response of structural systems with material and/or geometric nonlinearities. The finite element procedure is used for spatial discretization of the incremental equations of motion, and a step-by-step technique is used to compute the time dependent response. The algorithm used to solve the discrete set of nonlinear equations is a modified Newton iteration. Derivations of the finite element matrices are given for those elements currently operational in the NONSAP program element library.
