A New Target Tracking Algorithm for the Automatic Programmable Film Reader.

Abstract

White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) has a requirement to accurately determine the position and pitch attitude (V-angle) of missiles with respect to fiducials in a frame of visual information. This requirement is to effect the 'boresight correction,' i.e., the correction in angle to the mount encoder information for elevation and azimuth where the camera and associated optics are accurately positioned relative to the encoders. Since manual film reading is both relatively slow and quite tedious, a method for automatic film reading that is at least as accurate and as fast as manual reading would be a significant development for WSMR. During the past several years, a great deal of effort has been expended by WSMR to develop such a film reader, the end result being the development of the Automatic Programmable Film Reader.
