Electrode Reactions of the Hydrazonium Ion on Platinized Platinum,

Abstract

The kinetics of the cathode reaction and the nature of the equilibrium potential of a platinized platinum electrode at 20C were examined in solutions of hydrazine in H3PO4, by equilibrium polarization measurements. It was shown that, with increase in temperature (from 20C to 60C), together with the electrochemical oxidation N2H5(+) and reduction H(+) reactions on Pt, catalytic decomposition of hydrazine begins. A composite scheme of the electrode process on Pt, under test conditions, is presented.
