Computer Flight Plan System.

Abstract

Computer flight planning support for Department of Defense activities is provided by the Air Force Global Weather Central (AFGWC). Computer flight plans are generated from user specifications of flight path and aircraft characteristics. Route selection is made by the requester after evaluating both meteorological and non-meteorological variables affecting his planned flight. Route specifications may be supplied at the time of the request or obtained from a library of pre-defined routes maintained at AFGWC. The flight plan system consists of two major components. The Operational Flight Data component accomplishes the Collection, management and accounting of all data necessary to specify the route. The Flight Simulation Model component simulates the flight of an aircraft through the AFGWC's data base.
