Application of Remote Sensors to Army Facility Management; Appendix B: Validation of Environmental Maps Produced through Air-Photo Interpretation

Abstract

A study was performed to validate environmental baseline factor maps of the Fort Belvoir study area, which were prepared through air-photo interpretation without the aid of any supplementary data. A field data collection program was conducted to provide data to be compared with the information derived from the analysis of the aerial photos. It was found that the air-photo interpretation was quite accurate, but that increased accuracy would result if ground truth data were available to the interpreters during the interpretation process.
