TRAPATT Amplifier.

Abstract

The report describes the design and development of a wideband TRAPATT amplifier whose output power is of the order of 30 W. Particular attention is focused upon the utility of ring diodes for non cw (high peak power) applications together with descriptions for reducing or eliminating surface degradation effects. An amplifier broadbanding technique based on the design principles of the lumped-element circuit is described, and a realization of such an equivalent circuit is described. The operation of large-area ring diode amplifiers is described along with the Class C (rf-triggered) mode of operation.
