Automatic Wind Velocity Estimation from Multi-Spectral Geosynchronous Satellite Data: A Proposal.

Abstract

The report presents a survey of manual and automatic procedures for cloud type classification, as well as for cloud motion estimation from satellite data and from data received at local weather-observing stations. A system for automatic determination of wind velocity over the tropical oceans for clouds at low and high levels is proposed.
